Working under LS Marine, Brennan partnered with Ramsey County, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Saint Paul District, and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. Together, we built islands at Pigs Eye Lake in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
The Pigs Eye Lake Island Building Project master plan includes seven islands, sand beaches, marsh habitat, and land plantings. These features improve aquatic and terrestrial habitats while protecting Pigs Eye Lake’s shoreline. The project also beneficially reuses dredged material from the Mississippi River.
The project aims to improve aquatic habitat by creating greater depth and habitat diversity throughout Pigs Eye Lake. It also increases aquatic vegetation and incorporates structural habitat features that support healthy fisheries.
The project creates suitable habitats for migratory birds, including dabbling ducks, throughout Pigs Eye Lake. It also protects existing floodplain forests and marsh habitats from wind and wave erosion.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Civil Works Program and Ramsey County funded the project. The Conservation Partners Legacy Grant Program and Lessard-Sams Outdoor Heritage Council also provided funding.
